Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:
- DeKalb County and Atlanta officials announced Tuesday they would protect area forestry in the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center building. The 85-acre training center, named "Cop City," has been the center of conflict over the last few weeks between law enforcement and environmentalists opposing the expansive project for a year. (Atlanta Patch)
- Mayor Andre Dickens declared 2023 the "Year of the Youth" in Atlanta on Monday. Dickens gathered with nonprofits, educators, clergy, businesses, and community supporters and celebrated the initiative. "When we show up for the youth, we show up for Atlanta. The programming we've created is truly going to help all of Atlanta's youth thrive," he said. "Whether they're 4 or 24, [it's] time to invest in the future generations and put them on pathways to success that will help us move Atlanta forward together." - After being closed for two years, Holeman & Finch Public House will officially reopen its doors for dinner on Feb. 9. It will offer over 100 seats, plus a patio, at its new Colony Square location. The restaurant first opened about 15 years ago with a creative spin on Southern American cuisine and whole-animal cooking. Holeman & Finch's double cheeseburger inspired its restaurant chain, H&F Burger, which has locations inside Ponce City Market's Central Food Hall, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and Truist Park. - Over 100 historical sites in Georgia will offer free admission for Super Museum Sunday – in person or online – on Feb. 5. The Olde Pink House Restaurant in Savannah, known for its seafood caught daily in local waters, prime aged beef, and traditional southern fare, and Canoe in Atlanta, known for its popcorn ice cream sundae and jumbo lump crab cakes, made the list. - Bed, Bath & Beyond is closing another 87 stores across the country, including one here in Atlanta, due to financial struggles. The chain is closing its Buckhead Station location at 1 Buckhead Loop. (11Alive.com WXIA)
