Here are the five top stories in Atlanta today:
- Rapper "Stay Solid Rocky" was arrested in Atlanta on Thursday. The rapper, who's legal name is Darak Figueroa, is accused of shooting inside a church in Virginia on Aug. 27 after a funeral service. Figueroa fled to Georgia to evade capture and was spotted driving a Maserati Levante. According to investigators, he had a firearm in the vehicle at the time of his arrest. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Officials are warning Chattahoochee National Recreation Area visitors – a popular outdoor nature spot for metro Atlantans – to remove valuables from their vehicles as the number of break-ins increases. A total of 63 break-ins have occurred already this year in comparison to 13 in 2021. The park is using new license plate reading cameras to hopefully catch thieves. (WSB Radio)
- A shooter is reportedly at-large after his involvement in a robbery-shooting on Wednesday evening. Police have two others in custody who were involved in the incident at the 200 block of Peachtree Street. Police were still working to identify the shooter as of Thursday evening. (Atlanta Patch)
- An Atlanta apartment complex security guard was shot after confronting a group of people who were attempting to break into vehicles. The security guard was reported in stable condition. The group, including the shooter, got away in a blue vehicle. (WSB Atlanta)
- A viral TikTok trend has spread across the country to Atlanta and may be the reason behind reports of stolen cars. "Kia Boyz" posted on the social media platform TikTok showing viewers how easy it is to steal Kias and Hyundais. Police urge drivers who have one of these vehicles older than 2022 to purchase a steering wheel lock to protect their cars. (WSB Atlanta)
