Rayshard Brooks Funeral Service: Watch Livestream
His eulogy will note, "Rayshard Brooks wasn't just running from the police. He was running from a system that makes slaves out of people."

ATLANTA, GA — On Tuesday, Rayshard Brooks will be laid to rest. The 27-year-0ld died June 12 after a DUI stop by two Atlanta police officers ended in chaos as Brooks resisted being handcuffed, grabbed an officer's Taser and attempted to flee. Brooks was shot twice in the back.
Brooks' funeral, which is not open to the public, is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta.
In an email, a church spokesperson advised that if crowds choose to gather outside the church during the funeral, "the family is asking that they sit,and/or kneel in solidarity with the family." The spokesperson also said that a "Jumbotron" has been set up outside the church in order to stream the funeral service for members of the public who wish to pay their respects.

The service will also be covered live by BET. In a press release, BET noted that confirmed guests at the funeral include gospel stars Tamela Mann, Kelly Price, Smokey Norful, Kurt Carr and Bishop Dale C. Bronner. In addition, Bernice A. King, the daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., is expected to speak during the service.
The eulogy will be delivered by the church's senior pastor, Rev. Raphael Warnock. In an excerpt from the eulogy provided by the church, Warnock addresses the incident that ended in Brooks' death and led to the firing of Atlanta officers Garrett Rolfe and Devin Brosnan. (One day after the shooting, Atlanta police chief Erika Shields resigned, and days later Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard brought charges against both officers — including a felony murder charge against Rolfe.)

"Rayshard Brooks wasn’t just running from the police," Warnock will say in the eulogy. "He was running from a system that makes slaves out of people. A system that doesn’t give ordinary people who’ve made mistakes a second chance, a real shot at redemption."
