Days Of Rain, Falling Temps Headed To GA
Cold rain could bring drab conditions, with at least five days of showers set to target Georgia, easing drought conditions.
Georgia may see a reprieve from the current drought as five days of rain are expected to swamp the Peach State, starting Thursday.
Showers will blend with cooler temperatures, causing "cold rain" to bring harsh conditions in Georgia, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters warned the rain will not fully diminish the drought, but it may provide a bit of relief.
The first stint of downpour is anticipated between noon and 5 p.m. Thursday, the NWS reported.

Earlier in the week, NWS meteorologist Meredith Wyatt told Patch the initial rainfall will be due to a new system traveling along the northern Gulf.
At the time, Wyatt estimated up to 2.5 inches of rain will fall, but there's a chance that more concentrated areas could receive higher amounts. Severe weather is not anticipated, she said.

On Thursday, the NWS reported expected rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches through Saturday morning due to a stalled frontal boundary in central Georgia. Areas south of Interstate 20 could see more rain than other towns.
After midnight Friday, there is a 100 percent chance of a quarter to a half of an inch of rainfall to hit metro Atlanta, according to the forecast.
Coats may be needed at least through Monday to not only keep people dry from the rain, but also to keep them warm amid 40-degree temperatures.
In metro Atlanta, the coldest night will come Thursday and Saturday nights, according to the forecast. With a high temperature of 52 degrees, Sunday is shaping up to be the warmest day.
Wyatt reminded people to protect their pipes, plants and pets that may be outdoors. The NWS also advises care for people.
Updates will be posted on the weather service's Twitter page, the weather service's Facebook page and its website.
