Snow Flurries Fall Into Metro ATL, North GA Amid Below-Freezing Temps
Snowflakes started falling at 9 a.m. into several counties in GA, where a mass cold weather advisory stretched from the coast to the north.
ATLANTA, GA — Light snow and flurries began falling into parts of metro Atlanta and north Georgia mid-Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Snowflakes started cascading at 9 a.m., impacting: Atlanta, Marietta, Rome, Gainesville, Dalton, Newnan, Douglasville, Lawrenceville, Carrollton, Canton, McDonough, Cartersville, Decatur, Fayetteville, Calhoun, Conyers, Winder, Monroe, Covington and Dallas.
Some Smyrna residents told Patch there were few flurries in this Cobb County town, as well.

The NWS said the snow will primarily situate itself along and north of the Interstate 85 corridor and should clear by noon Thursday. The snow was not expected to accumulate.
Black ice was anticipated Thursday morning in north Georgia.

Two cold weather advisories were issued for several Georgia counties. The first advisory expired at 10 a.m.
The second advisory is set to take effect at 10 p.m. Thursday and end at 10 a.m. Friday, when wind chills are expected to plummet. The wind chill values of 3 above in north Georgia and 10 above in the central region could lead to hypothermia, the NWS said.
The advisory will go into effect for Chatham, Effingham, Screven, Candler, Jenkins, Tattnall, Evans, Bryan, Forsyth, Hall, Cherokee, Cobb, Paulding, Gwinnett, Fulton, Douglas, Carroll, DeKalb, Rockdale, Clarke, Oconee, Barrow, Fayette, Clayton, Henry, Putnam and several other counties.
After the flurries clear out, sunny weather may be forthcoming with northwest winds of 15-20 mph and wind gusts of 30 mph.
Afternoon temperatures on Thursday may rise into the upper 20s to lower 30s, but during the night hours, temperatures can be as low as 17 degrees, the NWS reported.
By Sunday night, low temperatures could be in the low 30s.
Georgia has faced two snowstorms this winter season, leaving thousands without power and cars stuck on the icy roads.
The National Weather Service predicted the following detailed forecast:
Today: Scattered flurries before 1 p.m. Cloudy early, then gradual clearing, with a high near 35. Northwest wind 15-20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 19. Northwest wind 10-15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Friday: Sunny, with a high near 45. North wind around 5 mph.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 28. Calm wind.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 30.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 56.
Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 34.
Monday: Sunny, with a high near 62.
Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 42.
Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 67.
Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 43.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 69.
