Storms Pose Daily Threat In Georgia, Latest Forecast Says

Georgia weather forecasters are predicting daily storms through at least the weekend.

ATLANTA, GA — A rainy trend continues in metro Atlanta and surrounding counties, with weather forecasters predicting daily storms through at least the weekend.

The locally heavy rainfall made for a wet commute for Georgians heading to work early Monday morning in what could be a prelude to the remainder of the week.

Patch spoke with National Weather Service meteorologist Vaughn Smith, who on Monday said while one or two isolated thunderstorms may pop up in Georgia, the weather is not expected to be severe.

"This is just typical Georgia summer," he told Patch.

If there are isolated thunderstorms, a NWS forecast shows they may arrive each day this week. But mostly, Smith said, metro Atlanta may face showers.

Winds could reach 20 to 30 mph, possibly knocking down branches but not a whole tree, Smith said.

The highest risk for daily afternoon and evening thunderstorms will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, where there could be more locally heavy rainfall, according to a hazardous weather outlook from the NWS.

The outlook was issued for Barrow, Bartow, Cherokee, Clarke, Cobb, Clayton, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Hall, Muscogee, Fulton, Oconee, Paulding and Rockdale counties, among several others.

Temperatures remain normal, Smith said. They are expected to steadily increase and could reach 89 degrees by Friday, the forecast showed.
