Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:
- Atlanta police arrested a man who allegedly made multiple terroristic threats at LGBTQ+ bars within days of each other. The threats occurred days after a mass shooting at a Colorado LGBTQ+ bar. Chase Staubs was accused of making threatening remarks on social media toward The Heretic. He then reportedly went to Felix's and was asked to leave after witnesses say he made threats there as well. Police began an investigation and were able to locate the suspect's address and take him into custody. (Reporter Newspapers + Atlanta Intown)
- An Atlanta man has been charged with murder for shooting a stranger he found sleeping in his house. Joshua Warren, 40, was arrested and charged with felony murder, aggravated assault, and firearm possession during the commission of a felony. Georgia has stand-your-ground laws, but police concluded there was no actual threat after investigating. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- Trees Atlanta's mission is to plant, protect, and educate on the importance of trees in "the city in the forest." The nonprofit planted over 200 trees, hundreds of native shrubs, and 1,500 perennials in westside Atlanta last week. Trees Atlanta aims to restore the area canopy to 50 percent in 10 years. - The Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) participates in the Welcome Project annually, showcasing handmade blankets later donated to refugees. MODA began the initiative in 2018 when the former director traveled to an art museum in Chicago that was showcasing the blankets.
