One of the most important considerations of metro Atlanta parents when choosing a place to live is the quality of the school district.
According to the 2026 Best School Districts in America list recently released by the education ranking service Niche, the best school district in metro Atlanta is Buford City Schools.
The school system, with nearly 6,000 students, earned an A+ grade. Not only is Buford City Schools the best school district in metro Atlanta, it is also the overall leading district in Georgia and has the best teachers statewide.

Other school districts in metro Atlanta area that got an “A-” or better grade, in the order ranked, are:
- Forsyth County Schools, A+
- Fayette County Public Schools, A
- City Schools of Decatur, A
- Bremen City Schools, A
- Cartersville City Schools, A
- Carrollton City Schools, A
- Cobb County Schools, A
- Cherokee County Schools, A
- Gwinnett County Public Schools, A
- Fulton County Schools, A
- Marietta City Schools, A
- Coweta County Schools, A-
- Walton County Schools, A-
Niche also released its best public high schools and best private high schools rankings.

The rankings, now in the 11th year, differ from others that rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance in that it also includes input from students, alumni and parents, as well as quantitative data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities, Niche said.
