One Dead, Child Hurt in Head-On Crash After Chase: Updated

ATLANTA, GA -- A fatal crash in Atlanta has taken the life of a 47-year-old mother and injured her 7-year-old child, according to news reports.

The incident began when a truck being chased by a Georgia State Patrol officer veered into oncoming traffic, smashing into a sedan head-on, police told local media.

The car chase began on Interstate 20, police said. Soon it continued on Memorial Drive in Atlanta. The truck hit the sedan, skidded and hit another car, witnesses told the WSB-TV.

First responders were on the scene at Memorial Drive at Douglas Street, where the crash occurred shortly after the lunch hour.

Traffic was temporarily closed on Memorial, the TV station reports.
