ATLANTA, GA — Atlanta film and TV mogul Tyler Perry donated $100,000 to the legal defense fund for Kenneth Walker, the boyfriend of Breonna Taylor, according to the fund's GoFundMe page.

Taylor was fatally shot in her home by Louisville Metro Police Department Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, Detective Myles Cosgrove and former detective Brett Hankison. The shooting happened as police executed a no-knock warrant at the residence and Walker, a licensed gun carrier, shot at who he thought were intruders. Police returned fire and Taylor was killed.

No officers have been charged in Taylor's death, which has led to protests across the country.

Walker is preparing to go to court in a lawsuit filed by Mattingly, who was shot in the leg during the raid. Mattingly is suing Walker for assault, battery and emotional distress.

Walker has filed suit against the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department and also sought immunity based on the state's "Stand Your Ground" law, CBS News reported.

"One would think that breaking into the apartment, executing his girlfriend and framing him for a crime in an effort to cover up her murder would be enough for them," attorney Steve Romines said in a statement on Walker's behalf. "Yet this baseless attempt to further victimize and harass Kenny indicates otherwise."

A GoFundMe page was launched on Walker's behalf on Nov. 10 to help raise money for the legal battle. The fundraising goal was $100,000, and Perry's donation helped the fundraiser surpass its goal. More than $104,000 were raised as of 10:50 a.m., according to the GoFundMe.

This is the latest in a series of philanthropic acts spearheaded by Perry and his foundation, The Perry Foundation. Earlier this year, Perry donated 1,000 $50 Kroger gift cards to Atlanta police officers to distribute within the community; donated 5,000 Thanksgiving dinners to people in need in Atlanta; covered the funeral expenses for Rayshard Brooks, a Black man shot by Atlanta police outside a Wendy's; and will pay the future college tuition for Brooks' children and stepson.
