Uber Launches JUMP Electric Bikeshare Service in Atlanta

Uber is offering free 15-minute rides on its JUMP bikes and scooters from today through January 27.

ATLANTA, GA -- On Monday, Uber announced the launch of JUMP dockless electric bikes in Atlanta. JUMP bikes are electric and provide a boost (up to 20 mph) with every pedal. The launch of the JUMP by Uber bikeshare program brings another transportation option to the Uber app in Atlanta, following the recent arrival of JUMP scooters in the city. For the next three weeks, through January 27th, customers can enjoy free 15-minute rides on both JUMP e-bikes and scooters.

JUMP bikes cost just $1 to start and 10 cents a minute after that, with reduced pricing available to low-income residents. To take advantage of the free 15-minute rides across Atlanta through January 27th, simply unlock the bike as normal and the discount will apply. Riders can take up to 5 free 15-minute rides per day, between JUMP bikes and scooters.

“Electric bikeshare has the potential to ease congestion in Atlanta by bridging the gap between traditional bikes and cars,” said Jen Shepherd, JUMP general manager for the southeast. “Deploying bikes at scale is another step toward our goal of reducing individual car ownership, and we’re excited for Atlantans to experience how JUMP bikes can help them go faster and farther - whether that’s to work, home, or a MARTA station.”

Uber is partnering with the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition to give people the skills and confidence they need to bike safely in the city.

“With the launch of electric-assist shared bikes in Atlanta, JUMP is poised to propel biking in Atlanta forward,” said Rebecca Serna, executive director of the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition. "The potential exists for a dramatic increase in the number of people riding - traveling both to and from their final destinations and connecting the first and last miles to public transit - given the accessible nature of e-bikes combined with Atlanta’s hills, heat, and sprawl."
JUMP e-bikes have an integrated cable lock and feature GPS intelligence. These features ensure that users are held accountable while riding, and responsibly lock their bikes to bike racks.

In 2017, JUMP bikes launched the first ever dockless electric bike share system in the United States. Dockless bike share expands transportation options for residents by making it easier to rent and park a bike anywhere within the community, instead of at designated stations. In May, Uber acquired JUMP as part of its mission to expand the menu of affordable, reliable transportation options available within the Uber app, and make it even easier for residents to get across town without relying on their own personal vehicle.

In late December, JUMP e-scooters launched in Atlanta, one of the first cities in the country with the product. JUMP’s pedal assist bikes are available in more than a dozen cities across the U.S.
