Here are the top five stories today in Atlanta:

  1. After Mayor Andre Dickens moved the residents of Atlanta's Forest Cove Apartments out of the property, some families claim that certain promises were unfulfilled. The building owners received 150 violations due to the horrendous living conditions, which included mold, broken windows, and trash. Although city officials pledged to rebuild the deteriorated apartments and find temporary spaces for the tenants, some promises were not kept, according to the affected families. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. QuiltCon, the largest modern quilt show, is coming to Atlanta, with thousands of attendees expected to view more than 600 quilts and participate in learning more about quilting. The show is also featuring 38 quilts made by quilters from all over the country, which are being sold to raise funds for two organizations that benefit vulnerable children of color. The Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild, a diverse guild with more than 100 members, helped connect the show to the children's needs. (SaportaReport)
  3. Anthony King, an Atlanta rapper and validated gang member, was arrested on drug and probation violation charges after a search warrant was executed on an apartment. Police found more than 1,400 grams of marijuana and two guns, one of which was reported stolen. King was charged with multiple offenses, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. (WSB Atlanta)
  4. DeKalb County police are investigating a deadly shooting at Rachel's Court Apartments in nearby Clarkston. Witnesses reported hearing an argument followed by gunshots at around 5:00 a.m. on the morning of the shooting. A 25-year-old man was found with at least one gunshot wound and died from his injuries at a nearby hospital. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  5. A 60-year-old man was charged with vandalism after spray-painting vulgar language on the front of a church building in Atlanta. An off-duty Atlanta police officer who worked at the Providence Missionary Baptist Church was alerted to the vandalism when he arrived at the church. James McIntyre, who was identified as the suspect after authorities reviewed video surveillance, was charged on suspicion of vandalism to a place of worship and taken to the Fulton County Jail.
