- A suspect is in custody after a nine-hour standoff with police at an Atlanta metro apartment complex. On Thursday afternoon, officers were called to The Falls at Sope Creek Apartments on Roswell Road. 35-year-old Durrell Harris had barricaded himself inside of his apartment with two hostages. Harris was holding a 7-year-old girl and 19-year-old woman hostage at the time. The hostages were rescued without injuries, and Harris was taken into custody by authorities.(11Alive.com WXIA)
- A ribbon cutting ceremony was held by the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs in celebration of the opening of the UPS Logistics Launchpad on Wednesday. The event was held to celebrate the growing number of Atlanta entrepreneurs, as well as to promote the warehouse, shipping, and fulfillment areas of the launchpad. The two organizations are collaborating on a project to promote entrepreneurship and ingenuity in Atlanta. (The Atlanta Voice)
- A routine traffic stop search led to a surprising discovery by police officers. On Oct. 9, officers were engaging in a routine traffic stop near the 300 block of Daniel Street. After smelling marijuana, police searched the vehicle and discovered a stolen handgun, another handgun modified to operate as an automatic, and 518 grams of marijuana. The two men in the vehicle were arrested at the scene. (WSB Atlanta)
- An off-duty DeKalb County police officer hit by a power line Friday morning while directing traffic. At the time of the incident, police said that utility crews were working to repair a traffic signal. The power line abruptly snapped, and struck the officer on the head. The officer, who was helping to direct traffic, was rushed to the hospital. His identity and condition have not been revealed. (WSB Atlanta)
