Zoo Atlanta Celebrates "Red White and Blue at the Zoo"
Members of the Armed Forces enjoy special discounts and families enjoy pre-fireworks fun on July 4.

From Zoo Atlanta:
Zoo Atlanta sends a special salute to the Armed Forces and offers families a destination for pre-fireworks fun this Independence Day. On Monday, July 4, active-duty, reserve, veteran and retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces enjoy free admission and $4 off general admission for up to six accompanying guests with a valid military ID.
Highlights will include a special July 4 Keeper Talk in honor of Sequoyah, the Zoo’s resident bald eagle. Named the national bird of the United States in 1782, the bald eagle is also one of American history’s greatest conservation success stories. Driven to the brink of extinction in the 20th century, the species was removed from the Endangered Species List in 2007, although it remains federally protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and state laws.

Other Fourth of July favorites will include the Splash Fountain presented by Atlanta Fulton County Recreation Authority, a water play area featuring 18 jets on a 2,500 square-foot section of the KIDZone, and the climate-controlled Scaly Slimy Spectacular: The Amphibian and Reptile Experience. Scaly Slimy Spectacular is home to many more American beauties, including diamondback terrapins, Barbour’s map turtles, eastern indigo snakes and alligator snapping turtles.
The Independence Day military discount is valid only on Monday, July 4, 2016, and may not be combined with any other offer or promotion. The offer is valid only at Zoo Atlanta Admissions; not valid online. Visit zooatlanta.org for more event details.
