Here are the top three stories today in Augusta:
- The sinkhole at nearby Thurmond Lake (Clarks Hill Lake) has been growing larger at the entrance to the Parksville Day Use Area since it was first spotted on Feb. 9. Due to the continued growth and the potential damage weakening the roadway, officials have closed off the day use area, and it is unclear when it will reopen. Currently, the hole measures 70 inches wide by 63 inches at its widest points on the surface and runs into the ground approximately six feet, but officials estimate that there is extensive damage beneath the surface that isn't visible. (The Augusta Chronicle)
- Although this year's annual Masters Par 3 Contest didn't see a hole-in-one, Seamus Power drove two back-to-back aces on Wednesday during the final two holes of the Masters Tournament course in Augusta. Before this year's competition kicked off on Wednesday, the Masters Tournament has seen a total of 90 aces since beginning in 1960. Also on Wednesday, the tournament's defending champion Scottie Scheffler and two-time green jacket winner Bubba Watson got one hole-in-one each. (Fox News)
- A mixup between Georgia realtor Scott Stallings and his wife Jennifer and professional golfer Scott Stallings and his wife, who is also named Jennifer, ended happily with both couples attending the Masters Tournament here in Augusta. Stallings the realtor was mistakenly sent an invitation to play in the 2023 Masters Tournament back in January and reached out to the professional golfer who shared the same name via Twitter to return the ticket. In return, Stallings the golfer invited Stallings the realtor and his wife to attend a pre-tournament dinner as well as the tournament's first two practice days. (11 Alive)
