Here are the top three stories in Augusta today:
- The four-day event "Taste of North Augusta" wrapped up on Sunday, featuring 15 restaurants offering specials in downtown, Riverside Village, and Hammond's Ferry. Restaurant owners were excited about bringing new faces into their businesses and introducing new flavors to the area. The event aimed to put the town on the map and grow the community as a whole. - Gun violence erupted in Augusta on Saturday, with three separate shootings reported in Richmond, Burke, and Aiken counties resulting in five injuries, including two male victims at Roosevelt Court and two more at 4th and Ellis streets who were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. One male victim was transported to the hospital in Girard, with no information reported on his injuries. Investigations by respective law enforcement agencies are ongoing. (The Augusta Chronicle)
- Gov. Brian Kemp was set to sign off on House Bill 230 yesterday (Apr. 24), which would create a special sales tax that could potentially fund the new James Brown Arena and its new connector to Bell Auditorium. The bill will create a sales tax of up to 0.5 percent for up to five years, only funding the amount needed to finance the project. Kemp was joined by other state and local leaders for the signing ceremony at Augusta’s downtown municipal building. (The Augusta Chronicle)

- According to AAA, gas prices in Georgia and South Carolina have decreased over the past week after weeks of rising, with Georgia's average price decreasing by three cents to $3.37 per gallon. The national average price of gasoline has also seen a decline, with the possibility that the high water mark for the national average for the summer has been reached, says Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. - Augusta University has announced that Karen J. Head will be the next associate provost for Faculty Affairs. Head, who is currently a professor of English and technical communication at Missouri University of Science and Technology, will assume her new post on Jul. 1 and will be responsible for creating a culture that promotes the success of Augusta University's faculty.
