Argument Over $3 Worth Of Gas Turns Violent In Brookhaven

Police also responded last week to a shoplifting call that involved more than 40 large cans of baby food formula.

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- During the week of May 6-12, Brookhaven police responded to 1,721 calls which included 119 incident reports, 99 citations, and 23 arrests. Here's a sampling of those calls:

Sunday, May 12 – DUI, 3200 block of Buford Highway. Police observed a green van traveling on Buford Highway dragging a street sign under the vehicle. The van was pulled over and the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The street sign had been run over at Buford Highway and North Cliff Valley Way. The driver was taken into custody and transported to jail.

Sunday, May 12 – Entering auto, 4300 block of Chamblee Dunwoody Road. Police responded to an entering auto complaint that occurred around 11 p.m. The lock on a black Chevy Silverado was pried open. Nothing was removed from the vehicle but it was obvious that entry had been made. The officer was able to pull prints from the vehicle, and the break-in was caught on video, showing two suspects in a black sedan.

Friday, May 10 – Damage to property/simple battery, 1900 block of North Druid Hills Road. Officers were dispatched to a hotel on a report of a person stabbed. Police were directed to the hotel room in question, where they found a male and female. There was no stabbing but the subjects in the room did damage the hotel room. The male subject also assaulted the motel maintenance person before officers arrived. Both the male and female were arrested for damage to property and for simple battery.

Wednesday, May 8 – Simple battery, 2800 block of Buford Highway: A male and female got into a verbal argument over $3 for gas. This later turned physical and the female’s shirt was torn when she was trying to physically take money from the male’s pocket in a store. The store had video of incident and it was reviewed by police. Both parties wanted to press charges.

Tuesday, May 7 – Shoplifting, hit and run, Noel Drive at Cortez Way. While checking on an unrelated water main break in the area, an officer observed a vehicle make an extremely wide turn around a curve at a high rate of speed. Then the vehicle made another wide turn and struck a vehicle that was traveling in the opposite direction. The driver and passenger of the first car abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot but were taken into custody a short time afterward.

It was learned that the driver of the second vehicle had been pursuing the first vehicle from a grocery store on Buford Highway after he had seen the suspects run out of the store with trash bags full of items, and flee at a high rate of speed. Inside of the abandoned vehicle, large trash bags containing approximately 40 large cans of baby formula were in plain sight. The offenders were taken to jail.
