Brookhaven Beer Fest Organizer: Fest was Twice What We Expected
Beerfest organizer shares his personal thoughts on Brookhaven's first beer festival.
Dream big - real big - and sometimes dreams do come true with lots of hard work and right people around you.
The Brookhaven Beer Fest turnout was twice what we expected to get in the inaugural year, and we were overwhelmed by tickets sold to the event. We had about 4000 festival goers line Apple Valley looking for beer and shade at the same time!
I have been following my passion of producing events now for more than eight years in Atlanta. My partners and I feel truly blessed by the support of community.

Over the last year, I ran into multiple road blocks and lots of 'no’s' (Dekalb parks, MARTA, etc.) until teaming up with Gretchen Roberts and Brookhaven Arts Alliance. With her charity's assistance, we were able to pull off the second largest beer fest in Georgia. As a 9-year resident of Brookhaven Heights, I've seen the neighborhood expand and grow, and there has been need for events in area. So I made it my personal mission to bring a great event to my neighborhood. With the help of Shane Aubrey USA Entertainment, Spiral Entertainment, and 150 volunteers, we put on one heck of show Saturday.
We ordered 22,000 beers pretty much poured them all! Our entertainment Ian Schumacher, DJ Suspense and High Fidelity brought a typical slow-pace Apple Valley Road and Fernwood Park to life. The after party at Hudson Grille was described as the bar was run over by our attendees.

Lastly I like to thank everyone that attended the event, and assure you that next year will be bigger, more efficient, hopefully not as hot, and probably the largest beer fest in State of Georgia has ever seen.
I didn’t get to try but one beer working 16 hours with a broken leg just trying to do my job to make it all happen for all the attendees. Till the next event in Brookhaven, thank you again to all the helping hands in making us a beer fest heavyweight in our rookie year!
Decatur Beer Fest watch out! We're coming for you in 2012!!
Cheers,
Jonathan Colon
