BROOKHAVEN, GA -- The city has wrapped up its 2019 paving schedule with the completion of Winchester Trail and Clearview Drive, one of the last streets set to be paved this year. The project was completed using Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) proceeds.

“We have a five-year paving program (2017-2021) approved by the City Council in the fall of 2016 based upon the Pavement Condition Index, which helps us prioritize projects with available funding,” said Public Works Director Hari Karikaran. “Since that time, we’ve always been working ahead of schedule. The roads we paved this year were originally on the 2020 paving list.”

A total of 6.85 lane-miles on 20 different streets were resurfaced this year. Over the past three years Brookhaven has paved more than 46 lane-miles on 127 streets.

“Brookhaven is well on its way to having the best roads in the entire state of Georgia,” said Mayor John Ernst. “Since we are so far ahead of schedule, we will bring in the laser trucks to scientifically evaluate the present condition of all our roads, to provide the basis for a new five-year plan. With this information, we can continue to prioritize the voter-approved SPLOST funds in the most efficient way to get the best roads at the best price.”
