Brookhaven Mandates That Apartment Gate Access Be On Radio Frequencies
Citing safety, a revised ordinance in Brookhaven mandates that transponders at all gated communities be accessible via radio frequencies.
BROOKHAVEN, GA -- Brookhaven's 59 gated communities will now all have to have transponders that are on radio frequencies, thanks to new changes to an existing ordinance, the city announced this week. Citing safety reasons, the city said that it will now require the radio frequency-accessible transponders be install in all new gated developments and be retrofitted into those gated communities that already exist.
The revised legislation will cost more than $41,000, city officials said. The transponders are typically what apartment residents aim their remote devices toward so that the gates can open.
“In an emergency, first responders lose precious time entering gated communities. Each development has a different protocol for access, and unmanned entrances become a real hindrance for immediate response,” Brookhaven Police Chief Gary Yandura said in a news release. “In a real emergency, a few extra minutes can be the difference between life and death.”
