Civic Groups Urge Residents to Sign Petition Opposing Proposed Brookhaven Drug Store
Brookhaven residents say the proposed Walgreens does not comply with zoning requirements.

A group of Brookhaven neighborhoods wants residents to sign a petition opposing the proposed Walgreens store planned for Peachtree Road at Colonial Drive.
Residents in Ashford Park, Brookhaven Fields, Brookhaven Heights, Historic Brookhaven and the Ashford Alliance civic groups have come out publicly Tuesday to oppose the Walgreens project because they say that the store does not comply with the Brookhaven LCI Overlay Standards.
"Compliance with these standards will ensure new projects within the LCI Overlay area, including Peachtree Road, will be developed as a walkable community similar to Village Place on Dresden Drive," said an email from Jim Eyre, Vice President of the Ashford Park Civic Association.

"Among other things in violation of the BPLCI Standards, Walgreens is asking for a variance for a driveway onto Peachtree Road that is not permitted pursuant to the BPLCI Standards and is not needed as they have sufficient access to/from Colonial Drive to serve their development," he said.
Initial plans to build the chain drugstore was presented to the county several years, ago according to officials, and modified versions of the plans have been presented throughout the years. This summer, the plans were presented again to the zoning board and residents in June started the expressing concerns about the building's proposed two story building which some residents feel threatens the overlay district.
