Funeral Arrangements Announced for Former Chamblee High Student Killed in Afghanistan
John R. Wimpey Cagle will be funeralized Thursday in Stone Mountain.
The funeral for former Chamblee High School Student and solider killed in the line of duty will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. officials announced.
Lance Cpl. John R. Wimpey Cagle, 19, a heavily decorated member of Chamblee High School's JROTC as a Lieutenant Colonel, was killed on Sept. 28 while supporting Operating Enduring Freedom in Hemland province, Afghanistan, according to Department of Defence officials. He was assigned to 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C., the DoD said in a release.
Friends and family told news media that Cagle wanted to be a Marine from a young age.

Facebook and Twitter message filled the feeds starting as early as Sept. 29 through today with messages such as, "RIP LCpl John R. Wimpey Cagle"; "John was a great kid. Prayers w/the Cagle fam."
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mountain West Church of God in Stone Mountain where Cagle was an active member of the youth group. His services will be officiated by Pastor Michael Shreve officiating. The body will lie in state from Noon - 2 p.m. and Cagle will be buried on Friday at Empire Memorial Gardens in Empire, Ala.

He is survived by his father Johnny L. Wimpey of Lawrenceville, mother Carolyn A. Cagle of Tucker and brother Andrew L. Wimpey Cagle of Tucker.
