Fur Real? Woman Cited For Falsely Reporting A Dognapping
Brookhaven police say woman's tale of Yorkie being snatched didn't happen.
BROOKHAVEN, GA -- Police in Brookhaven say a woman who claimed to be a victim of dognapping was just yapping.
Habibah Dixon, 43, reported to police last month that a man snatched her beloved Yorkie out of her hands outside the Encore Apartments. The story was picked up by several news sites and circulated.
The police force diligently assigned officers to look into the case, but after several days they made a startling revelation: The woman made it up.

The Brookhaven Police Department recently took to Facebook to explain what they're calling a "hoax."
"Brookhaven Police detectives have spent many investigative hours since this November 25th report attempting to identify and locate this suspect," the department posted on the social media site. "Today, they have learned that the information provided by Dixon to police was false. There was no suspect that had taken and ran away with her Yorkie."

Brookhaven police charged Dixon under a city ordinance that prohibits giving false information to officers.
"The dog simply ran away while being walked," Brookhaven police Maj. Brandon Gurley told WAGA-TV. "In the end, the statements she gave were false."
"Detectives now know that Dixonβs Yorkie ran off during one of her walks," Brookhaven police said on Facebook. "They have identified and spoke to witnesses that saw her Yorkie running in and out of traffic on Clairmont Road. It is believed that someone may have stopped to pick up the Yorkie to keep her from getting hit."
Speaking to local media, officers said they didn't know why a dog owner would make up a story like that. Dixon is standing by her story though, according to WAGA.
Meanwhile the dog, named "Blondie," remains missing.
Anyone with information about the lost dog is urged to contact Brookhaven Police at 404-637-0600.
