Georgia House Democrats Urge Marjorie Taylor Greene To Resign
Brookhaven state Rep. Matthew Wilson introduced a resolution, sponsored by over 40 House Democrats, urging Marjorie Taylor Greene to resign.

BROOKHAVEN, GA β Brookhaven state Rep. Matthew Wilson, a Democrat, and more than 40 other Democratic state representatives are calling for the immediate resignation of U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene amid the resurfacing of several controversial social media posts and videos made by Greene, per a Friday news release.
Wilson introduced a resolution to the Georgia General Assembly calling for Greene, who represents Georgia's 14th district in the U.S. House of Representatives, to resign immediately. The resolution is sponsored by more than 40 other Democratic state representatives; however, the resolution has yet to be assigned a tracking number in the legislative system, according to the release.
βAfter the events at the United States Capitol on January 6, and after more information has been uncovered from her social media posts both prior to and in the time since assuming office, it has become abundantly clear that Marjorie Taylor Greene is not fit to hold public office,β Wilson said in the release. βRepresentative Greene has violated her oath of office by willfully inciting violence against her fellow citizens, and needs to resign to allow the people of Georgiaβs 14th Congressional District the opportunity to elect a representative that will not hold the public trust in such contempt.β

In the resolution introduced Friday, it says Greene has "willfully incited violence against her fellow citizens through participation in a libelous smear campaign centered on discrediting the very same elections she participated in and won, in addition to her continued promotion of the QAnon conspiracy theory that alleges senior government officials are members of a secret satanic pedophile cult," both prior to and in the time since assuming office in January following her election win in November 2020.

"Representative Greene has endorsed statements threatening to extrajudicially execute, shoot or hang the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives [Nancy Pelosi], other prominent political figures and agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation based on these same false claims," the resolution continues. "We, as Georgians and as Americans, find it to be a singular, self-evident truth that for our government to function and the prosperity of our nation to continue for generations to come, it is irreconcilable to both defend our Constitution and to foment terroristic attacks against our fellow Americans."
The resolution also said the citizens of Greene's district should have an opportunity to elect another representative "not in contempt of their Constitutional obligations as soon as possible."
Greene did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.
