Georgia Shakespeare Moves Closer to Fundraising Goal

The organization said more than $100,000 has already been raised.

Richard Garner, a founder and Producing Artistic Director of , told Patch Friday night that since last weekend, the organization has raised $108,000.

Garner said he is hopeful that a cabaret to benefit the organization will result in the remainder of the funds needed to meet the $150,000 mark by Sept. 25. He said if the funds are not raised, Georgia Shakespeare will have to shut its doors permanently.

Last week, Garner issued a to raise the money in order to make payroll as well as produce its next production.

The company, which employs about 200 artists a year and has 8.5 staffers, has been in Brookhaven on the campus of for more than 15 years and entertaining the Atlanta metro area with Shakespeare's work for 26 years.
