Governor Kicks Off "No Kid Hungry Campaign"
Partnership With Share Our Strength and the Georgia Food Bank Association Will Connect Kids to Summer and Afterschool Meals Programs

Just in time for Thanksgiving, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Monday that the state will join the Georgia Food Bank Association, Share Our Strength and a diverse group of corporate, nonprofit and government leaders to kick off the Feeding for a Promising Future – No Kid Hungry Campaign.
The campaign aims to end childhood hunger in Georgia by using proven strategies to increase the number of Georgia children who eat meals through federally funded programs. These programs include summer meals, afterschool meals programs, and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Georgia ranks sixth highest in the nation for child food insecurity with more than 700,000 children in the state at risk of hunger. Of the more than 800,000 students in the state who got a free or reduced-price lunch at school in SY2009-2010, only 14 percent participated in the summer meals program.

The Campaign is a public-private partnership with the Georgia Food Bank Association, a network of seven regional Feeding America member food banks throughout the state, and is funded by the national children’s anti-hunger organization Share Our Strength through corporate sponsorships from Walmart and the ConAgra Foods Foundation, and with support from the Arby’s Foundation. The Georgia campaign is part of Share Our Strength’s national No Kid Hungry Campaign.
A press conference will be held to launch Feeding for a Promising Future – No Kid Hungry Campaign on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
