Other Brookhaven police calls: Woman duped out of $16K on dating website, juveniles arrested for car break-ins, Buford Highway burglaries.
BROOKHAVEN, GA -- From May 13-19, Brookhaven police responded to 2,093 calls which included 144 incident reports, 103 citations, and 34 arrests. Here's a sampling of some of those calls:
Thursday, May 16 β Burglary, 3500 block of Buford Highway. A caller told police that four subjects were entering through a back window and using a knife to pry it open. Police surrounded the apartment building and found four subjects standing outside in the breezeway with the apartment door partially open. Jewelry and a PlayStation 4 were situated just inside the doorway. All four of the subjects were juveniles, and positively identified as the subjects who entered the window.
Wednesday, May 15 β Fraud, 1400 block of Briarwood Road. The complainant stated she met a gentleman on a dating website. They had several conversations which led her to agree to a loan of $16,000 which she sent via wire transfer to the subject. He agreed to repay the loan in a couple of days, but he did not. When she tried contacting him, his dating profile was no longer active. She has filed reports with other agencies to recoup her monies.

Tuesday, May 14 β Multiple car break-ins, several locations. On a routine patrol, officers discovered several suspects breaking into a car on Woodrow Way. The suspects fled on foot and police gave chase. K-9 Officer Fikes responded to the scene and was able to track the suspectsβ movements back to Oglethorpe Way. Two suspects, ages 17 and 15, were apprehended, and two others eluded capture. Officers estimate that this crew was responsible for a string of car break-ins on several streets in this area.
Monday, May 13 β Traffic offense, 4300 block of Peachtree Road. Police saw a driver with a cell phone in his hands and initiated a traffic stop. The driver provided a name and date of birth because he did not have his driverβs license on him. A check of the name found the driverβs license was suspended in Virginia. The driver was arrested for driving while suspended and his vehicle was released to a licensed driver.

Monday, May 13 β Obstruction, Buford Highway at North Druid Hills. Police stopped a vehicle for not having a license tag. The background check showed the vehicle also was not insured. The driver told officers he was a car dealer but could not provide proof of insurance on a fleet policy. Then the driver said he was on his way to therapy. Then the manager of a plumbing company arrived and told officers that the driver was on his way to a plumbing job for work. Given the driverβs inability to tell the truth, he was arrested and charged with obstruction and traffic charges.
