More Than 700 Pounds Of Trash Pulled From Brookhaven Creek

BROOKHAVEN, GA -- Volunteers participating in Brookhaven’s 2018 Stream Cleanup Event on Nov. 3 rolled up their sleeves and pant legs to pull a lot of trash and debris from the stream at Briarwood Road. Fourteen volunteers removed more than 700 pounds of trash and 20 tires from the North Fork Peachtree Creek near Briarwood Road in approximately two hours last Saturday.

Two shopping carts and a bicycle were also extracted.

The Brookhaven Public Works Department provided bags, gloves and other collateral material needed for the cleanup.

“Brookhaven will begin construction on the Peachtree Creek Greenway later next month, and it is important that the quality of the water matches the quality of the trail, once complete,” said Public Works Director Hari Karikaran. “Due to the enthusiasm shown by the participants, Public Works Department is planning additional clean up in the near future. Our goal is to clean the North Fork Peachtree Creek within the City limits before we open the Greenway for public use.”
