Oglethorpe Hires First Female Lacrosse Head Coach

The Oglethorpe University athletics department announced Thursay afternoon the hiring of Lee Ann Tutchton as the school's first ever head women’s lacrosse coach, effective immediately. 

Tutchton, according to the athletic department, will spend 2011-12 recruiting and scheduling to build a program ready for play in the spring of 2013.

Tutchton brings a wealth of lacrosse experience to the Stormy Petrels’ staff. She starred in college at James Madison University in both women’s lacrosse and field hockey before moving to Georgia to begin her coaching career. As women’s lacrosse began to spread in the South in the late 1980’s, Tutchton started the first under-11 girl’s lacrosse team in the state. Most recently, Tutchton has served as the Varsity Community Coach at Lassiter High School where she helped guide the program to the state championship.

“Lee Ann has been around the sport of lacrosse her entire life and brings immeasurable experience to a program that will be built for play in 2013,” said athletics director Jay Gardiner. “With her longstanding relationships with countless young players in the state, she is the perfect fit to construct this team and I look forward to watching them excel on the field.”
