Text to 911 Now Available to Brookhaven Residents

New emergency service that began Friday also works in Johns Creek, Dunwoody & Sandy Springs.

BROOKHAVEN – Police in Brookhaven are letting residents know about a new way to reach them when there’s an emergency.

Starting Friday, residents can text 911 and be connected to public safety officials.

The new initiative is being rolled out to select cities in metro Atlanta by Chatcomm, or the Chattahoochee River 911 Authority. The service is available in Johns Creek, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody and Brookhaven.

The new service is seen as a boon to residents who are hearing impaired or unable to talk because of immediate danger.

On Facebook, the Brookhaven Police Department posted some reminders about the new service. β€œDo not use abbreviations,” says one of them. Another is β€œNo pictures or videos.”
