11Alive reported that one of the student's mother told them that, "she was upset because no one from the school called her to let her know about the incident. Alford offered this description of the incident:

During the bus ride home, a BB gun was discharged by a male student, which resulted in two students (1 male, 1 female) sustaining minor injuries. The student who discharged the BB gun has been suspended and charged with aggravated assault. The incident was reported to the school on March 20. The BB gun never entered the school building; it was planted by a student outside of the school before school began, and retrieved by the student at the end of the school day.
