Happy April Fools' Day! What’s the Best Prank You’ve Ever Seen?

For the jokester in all of us, here are some fun pranks to play on April 1.

Gullible ones beware: April Fools' Day is here.

For me, April Fools' Day was the best time of year. It was a time where I could put my smarts, tenacity and creativity to good use: for my own laughs.

I brought Oreos to school to share with my friends and had replaced the cream with toothpaste. I pretended I won tickets from a radio station to see my friends' favorite artists and told them I was taking them, and I usually had someone else (a friend, a cousin) in the background shrieking with me in faux teenage-girl excitement over the nonexisting tickets to make it more believable.

I typed up letters, about incomplete homework, on my school's letterhead addressed to the parents of my most goody-good middle school friends. I had them called to the school's office to pick up their letters and when I couldn't hold in my laughter anymore, I let loose a hardy "April Fools!"

I did it all. The older I got, the more intricate the pranks became, until one year, I just forgot it was April Fools' Day. Let's just say, you should never forget April Fools' Day after spending years playing April Fools' jokes on all your closest friends and family.

If you want to pull a prank on this playful holiday, here are some fun and easy ideas to try from Patch editors Kristi Reed and Ivy Jacobson:

Tape magnets to the bottom of an empty coffee cup, and attach it to the top of your car. Laugh at all the people who frantically try to get your attention as you drive by. — April Fool Zone

Super Glue some coins to the sidewalk or any spot that gets a lot of foot traffic. Make sure it's an appropriate place, then watch people try to get the coins. — Kidz World

“Foil” a co-worker. — Instructables

Guyism offers several April Fools’ Day suggestions to try around the office:

  • Borrow someone’s cell phone and change the language setting to a foreign language.
  • Add several odd appointments with alarms set to go off during the day to a co-worker’s calendar.
  • Hide all of the desktop icons on someone’s computer and replace the monitor’s wallpaper with a screenshot of their desktop.
  • Place a small piece of a Post-it note over the ball under someone’s computer mouse so that it won’t work.
