Here are the top three stories today in Buckhead:

  1. The Morgan County Sheriff's Office has installed 12 new Flock License Plate readers. The solar-powered devices cost about $40,000 in total. The department reports the new devices will provide another tool to solve and prevent crime. The devices do not record speed or traffic data, just license plates. (Morgan County Citizen)
  2. A Morgan County family is speaking out about being pressured to sell property to accommodate the Rivian project. According to the Jenkins family, the Joint Development Authority threatened to have the Georgia Department of Transportation condemn the land if they did not sell it. The Rivian project would build a $5 billion electric vehicle manufacturing plant. (Morgan County Citizen)
  3. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has allocated $250 million in COVID-19 relief funds for neighborhood recreation improvements. The funds will be for communities with more than 20 percent of residents living in poverty. Due to the limitations, Buckhead will likely not receive any of the program's funds. (Kansas City Star)
