Rep. Beskin Named Chair of MARTOC Subcommittee, Appointed to House Study Committee

The announcement came Wednesday, July 6.

State Rep. Beth Beskin (R-Atlanta) was appointed as chairman of the MARTOC Governance Subcommittee by Rep. Tom Taylor (R-Dunwoody) and also to the House Study Committee on Historic Site Preservation by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge).

β€œI would like to thank Speaker Ralston and Chairman Taylor for appointing me to these positions that will allow me to further serve my constituents and our state,” said Rep. Beskin. β€œAs the largest transit organization in our state, the MARTA budget is crucial to the development of our growing infrastructure and economy, and I look forward to working with the members of my subcommittee to ensure proactive governing solutions. Similarly, Georgia is home to a growing number of historic sites and parks. In order to provide for their effective preservation, we must understand the needs associated with each so as not to compromise the integrity of the landmarks, and I look forward to this study and its findings.”

MARTOC, chaired by Rep. Tom Taylor (R-Dunwoody) is a statutory committee with oversight of the MARTA budget. As a joint committee with the House and Senate, MARTOC does not handle legislation nor do the members have a vote on the MARTA Board of Directors. The House Study Committee on Historic Site Preservation, chaired by Rep. Chuck Williams (R-Watkinsville), was created by House Resolution 978 and will study the effectiveness of state efforts to preserve historic sites in Georgia and conduct a comprehensive review of programs designed to accomplish such preservation.

Representative Beth Beskin represents the citizens of District 54, which includes portions of Atlanta and Fulton County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2014 and currently serves on the Education, Judiciary, MARTOC and State Planning & Community Affairs committees.
