Tree Limb Falls on Morris Brandon Elementary Student on Playground
The student was conscious and alert when he was transported to a local hospital on Thursday afternoon.
An 8-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Thursday afternoon after a tree branch fell on him while he played on the playground of his elementary school.
The Morris Brandon Elementary School student was playing with other students on Thursday afternoon when the limb fell from what is described as a "sizeable tree," according to a report from WSB-TV.
The boy was reported to be alert when he was transported to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.

"It is so unfortunate that this happened," said Stephen Alford, spokesman for Atlanta Public Schools.
Alford told Buckhead Patch that a city arborist and employees from the APS Facilities Department visited the school to evaluate the trees around the school and playground. The arborist's report will be available next week.

The state of the boy's condition has not yet been released. No other students were injured, and the school authorities did not allow students to play outside on the playground after the incident occurred.
"Our primary concern is to make sure the student is OK and that all of the students are OK. We just want to make sure we have a safe learning environment," Alford said.
