As the video circulates around the nation, Brooks, along with Officers Elijah McCall, Michal Skillman Derek Daniel and Andre Valentine are all being hailed as heroes.
'When I showed up the car was fully engulfed in flames," Brooks told reporters. "Both victims were pinned inside so we couldn't get them out." Brooks said that in the heat of the moment (no pun intended), he wasn't concerned with himself.

"When you sit back and think about it after the fact, you say 'why would you run into a situation where the car is fully engulfed"' but ... I got into this job to help people," Brooks said.
βThe heat was tremendous,β McCall told WXIA-TV. βWe were hearing screams from the guys. To hear somebody screaming that loud, you know theyβre asking for help and you're trying to help them but you can't because they're pinned inside.β
The driver and passenger were rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition, WGCL reports. There has been no update on their conditions, but both are expected to recover.
