12 Cherokee Stores Busted For Underage Booze Sales

Cherokee and Canton law enforcement tested over 100 establishments in underage alcohol sales. Nearly 90 percent passed the test.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA — A total of 12 Cherokee establishments were cited Monday for selling alcohol to minors as part of a county-wide sting operation. The Cherokee Marshal's Office and the Canton Police Department joined forces to run the operation, according to the release from the marshal's office.

Volunteers under 20 years old attempted to buy alcohol from 104 establishments around the state, 12 of which illegally sold the booze. Both the employees who sold the alcohol and the establishments themselves were cited.

“We take the sale of alcohol to underage persons very serious and with the high school prom season just around the corner we feel the timing for this type operation is perfect. We are very pleased with the businesses that complied with the law and appreciate their part in protecting our youth," said Chief Marshal Ron Hunton.

“We are very appreciative for the assistance of the Cherokee Marshals Office with this initiative. Our joint concentrated effort to ensure our eateries and alcohol establishments are adhering to laws as it relates to underage purchase and consumption is key to compliance of our businesses and protection of the young people in our community,” Canton Police Chief Mark Mitchell said, according to the release.
