CANTON, GA — An Amazon truck driver accused of hitting and killing a 79-year-old pedestrian Tuesday evening is facing charges, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

Authorities said the driver was identified as London Best, a 24-year-old Alpharetta man.

The alleged hit-and-run occurred around 6:30 p.m. at Cumming Highway near Jordan Lane, authorities said. They added Sandra Fitts, a Canton resident, was killed in the crash.

Authorities said the Amazon truck was identified as a suspect vehicle after a deputy responding to the crash saw it turn onto Bishop Drive. A Canton officer found the truck on Bishop and saw "damage consistent with the evidence" at the crash scene.

Authorities ultimately determined the truck was the vehicle that hit and killed Fitts, they said.
