Amazon Driver Faces New Drug Charges In Fatal GA Hit-And-Run

Authorities said drugs were found in an Amazon truck that was allegedly used in a hit-and-run that killed a 79-year-old woman in Canton.

CANTON, GA — The Amazon driver accused of killing a 79-year-old woman in a hit-and-run this week now faces drug charges after authorities said narcotics were found in the work truck.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office on Thursday said London Best has additionally been charged on suspicion of possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce, possession of a schedule 1 narcotic (THC wax) and possession of drug-related objects.

Authorities did not say if Best, a 24-year-old Alpharetta man, was suspected of being under the influence while driving the truck.

Austin Stowe, an Amazon spokesperson, told Patch its drivers operate through delivery service partners that work on Amazon's behalf. Best is presently ineligible to deliver packages for Amazon, pending the outcome of the police investigation.

“We’re deeply saddened by this incident, and our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time," Stowe said. "We’ll support local police as they investigate.”

The alleged hit-and-run occurred around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cumming Highway near Jordan Lane, authorities said. They added Sandra Fitts, a Canton resident, was killed in the crash.

Authorities said the Amazon truck was identified as a suspect vehicle after a deputy responding to the crash saw it turn onto Bishop Drive. A Canton officer found the truck on Bishop and saw "damage consistent with the evidence" at the crash scene.

Authorities ultimately determined the truck was the vehicle that hit and killed Fitts, they said.

Best was arrested and charged on suspicion of first-degree vehicular homicide and hit and run resulting in a death, authorities said. He remains incarcerated in the Cherokee Adult Detention Center without bond, authorities said.
