  1. Canton resident Leonard Cantrell, 48, has been arrested after intentionally starting a fire that destroyed his house. Cantrell has been charged with first-degree arson and family violence as authorities consider the fire an act of domestic violence against his wife. As of Tuesday, Cantrell was housed at the Cherokee County Jail without bond. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  2. The Cherokee County School District is now accepting applications for its annual VILLA Parent Academy. The six-week program gives parents the opportunity to learn more about the school district and how to get involved as a volunteer. The academy is free and will run on select days between Oct. 4 and Nov. 17. (Cherokee County School District)
  3. Five new homes have been listed for sale in the Canton-Sixes area. Available properties range from a 2,642 sq. ft., 3-bed, 3-bath home for $569,000 to a $725,000 home with 4 beds, 3 baths, and 2,574 sq. ft. Get all the details at the link. (Canton-Sixes Patch)
  4. Antonio Williams, 47, of Canton, has been arrested for hiding cameras in a bathroom to spy on his girlfriend. He was charged with a felony of unlawful eavesdropping or surveillance and a misdemeanor of simple battery family violence. Williams was in custody with a $4,000 bond as of Tuesday afternoon.   5. The Canton Police Department is currently hiring and the starting pay for already certified individuals is $53,000. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older, have a high school diploma or GED, no felony convictions, no adverse driving history, and a valid Georgia driver's license.
