  1. Construction on a new bridge over Canton Creek was delayed due to the presence of the endangered Cherokee darter fish. Between Mar. 1 and Jun. 30 annually, construction cannot disturb the creek due to the fish. Recently, Cherokee County officials announced an extended road closure beginning Jul. 26 through late January for Union Hill Road between Hasty Trail and Spearman Lane for the bridge replacement over Canton Creek.   2. On Jul. 22, the State Department of Education released the testing results of students in the Cherokee County School District. The Milestones tests showed that students did better on the test this year than last year. Statewide, compared to the previous year students improved on 17 of the 21 assessments.   3. Scooter's Coffee, a midwest-based drive-thru coffee franchise, plans to expand into Canton. The franchise specializes in artisan espresso, coffee drinks, smoothies, and pastries. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
