- It's opening day at the Canton Farmers Market, where you'll find tons of locally grown food items, including produce, baked goods, flowers and other food-related goods every Saturday until Sept. 2. The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Brown Park, between the Cherokee County History Museum and the Canton Police Department, and there will be guest appearances from the Cherokee County Master Gardeners and Horizon Healing Center. If you have any questions or comments you'd like to share with organizers, please reach out via email at cantongafarmersmarket@cantonga.gov. The market also has a Facebook page here, they will share date-specific schedules and information there. (Canton Events)
- The Canton Police Department has some extremely important information for us, and if you love swimming like my family does, take a beat before jumping in to be sure everyone is safe and ready for the water. In terms of water safety, be sure to avoid distractions when your child is in or around the water; before visiting a body of water, prepare your child by enrolling them in age-appropriate swim lessons; if a child goes missing, check the water first; if you're in the ocean and get caught in a current, don't fight it, stay calm and float with the current until you can swim freely; do not dive into unfamiliar bodies of water; and only swim with a lifeguard present and on duty. (Canton PD via Facebook)
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is holding its regular Saturday adoption event today. The available animals can be seen online here. Please follow the instructions found at the link for getting into the "virtual line." Adoption hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and the shelter is located at 1015 Univeter Road. Animals are adopted on a first come-first served basis, and the adoption fee includes the spay or neuter, heartworm and leukemia testing, initial vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, microchipping and more.
