Here are the top five stories today in Canton-Sixes:
- Canton police are trying to identify an adult man found dead in the Etowah River on Saturday, Jul. 16. Cherokee Fire and Rescue recovered the body north of the Waleska Street bridge in Canton. Police ask anyone with information to contact the Canton Police Department. (WSB TV)
- Yesterday, Jul. 18, a dump truck overturned on I-575 North in Canton, causing drivers to exit at Highway 140 to avoid delays. There is no other information on the crash as of Monday evening. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- On Jul. 15, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes (CEACC) Unit charged 29-year-old Joseph Ruben William Wade Thomas of Cherokee County with one count of Sexual Exploitation of Children, two counts of Aggravated Child Molestation, and two counts of Sodomy. The Canton Police Department aided the GBI CEACC unit in the investigation. (GBI)
- On Thursday, Jul. 21, the city of Canton will hold a public hearing to discuss the city's proposed budget for 2023. There will be a vote on the millage rate. The budget could be nearly $80 million. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger)
- Today, Jul. 19, the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners (BOC) will hold a public hearing and vote on the Penler, LLC rezoning case. The Penler, LLC apartment complex has 192 apartments. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger)
