Here are the top five stories in Canton-Sixes today:
- The City of Canton recently announced that it would be changing sanitation service providers beginning Oct. 1. On Friday, the City issued a "Q&A" answering some of the most frequently asked questions about the switch. The new service will start on Oct. 1, 2022, at which time customers will have their old sanitation carts to be exchanged for new "Waste Pro" carts of the same size. Customers will also receive their last bill from the City of Canton for sanitation services received in September. Waste Pro will start billing in October. (City of Canton)
- On Saturday morning, the 9th Annual Chick-fil-A Cherokee County 5K was held in Etowah River Park here in Canton. This is the largest race in North Georgia and raises money for the Cherokee County Special Olympics and the Cherokee County Educational Foundation. Prizes were awarded to the top runners, along with the "best dressed cow" and the largest registered team. Learn more about the race here. (City of Canton)
- A new home community, Sanctuaire, broke ground in the heart of downtown Canton. Phase One of construction will feature 14 single-family homes along Railroad and Academy Streets. Phase Two will include over 120 single-family homes and townhomes close to Canton's restaurants, shops and riverfront parks just off of John T. Pettit Street. (Canton-Sixes Patch)
- The R.T. Jones Memorial Library has a lot of family-friendly activities planned this week! If you're looking for fun activities for your kiddos this week, the library will host the following events: Family Storytime (Tuesday, Aug. 16 at 10:30 a.m.) and Toddler Sensory Snack and Play: Bugs, Bugs, Bugs! (Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 10:30 a.m.). The library will also hold a Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, Aug. 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Sequoyah Regional Library System)
- On Saturday, Aug. 20, a Children's Consignment Sale will take place at Canton First Baptist. Over 50,000 items are expected to be up for sale, including clothing, baby equipment, furniture, toys, and more. Prospective volunteers and sellers may register at this site. (Canton-Sixes Patch)

- Did you know that the Cherokee County Animal Shelter offers free Home Again microchips for pets owned by county residents?
