- Road closures in Cherokee County early next week may affect commutes. Lane closures due to paving will take place Monday, Aug. 15 through Wednesday, Aug. 17. The paving will take place from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on East Cherokee Drive at the South Holly Springs Road/Thornwood Drive intersection. (Cherokee County, Georgia via Facebook)
- A total of 138 homes are officially on the horizon in Canton. The Folia Group and Canton City officials broke ground on the Sanctuaire community downtown this week. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News via Facebook)
- Canton Theatre has been named one of the best historic theaters in the state by Americantowns Media. The theater dates back to 1911 when it made its debut as a silent movie house. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Ball Ground City Council has approved regulations on gas stations and liquor stores within city limits. The convenience store ordinance was approved, limiting new gas stations to only two at one intersection and specific regulations for new convenience stores. The council also approved the first reading of an amendment that would limit new liquor stores to be located 5,280 feet away from any existing liquor store. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
- Both Monkeypox and COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Georgia. The first monkeypox case was confirmed in June and has reached over 700 since. Nationwide, cases were close to surpassing the 10,000 mark on Friday morning. (GPB News)
