Here are the top five stories in Canton-Sixes today:

  1. On Tuesday, Jul. 12, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department arrested 27-year-old Adrian Perez Luis and charged him with felony hit and run, serious injury by vehicle, and distracted driving. Luis is accused of the hit-and-run where a 15-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured on Bells Ferry Road. (Canton-Sixes Patch)
  2. On Jul. 8, Breanna Chadwick, a 20-year-old living in Canton, was killed in a freak accident at horse riding event in Chatsworth. According to the fire department, a horse plowed into a gate in the arena and the gate hit Chadwick. (WSB Atlanta)
  3. On Jul. 12, 18-year-old Brentson Christopher Yarber of Canton was arrested and charged with felony aggravated child molestation, strongarm rape, and aggravated sodomy. Yarber is accused of committing the crimes between August 2020 and August 2021. (Northwest Georgia News)
  4. On Jul. 13, ProPublica reporter Nicole Carr won July's Sidney Award from the Sidney Hillman Foundation for her investigation of the story "White Parents Rallied to Chase a Black Educator Out of Town. Then, They Followed Her to the Next One." The person examined in the investigation was Cecelia Lewis, an accomplished Black educator, who was run out of an educator job in Cherokee County in 2021.
