CANTON, GA — A man is facing murder charges after authorities say he shot and killed another man at his girlfriend's Canton home.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said authorities responded around 10:15 p.m. Monday to North Lake Drive, where they found an unresponsive man laying on the ground in a carport.

Authorities identified the man who was shot to death as Michael Kyle Reid, 42, of Canton.

The woman who lived at the home was on the scene. Authorities said her current boyfriend, identified as 44-year-old murder suspect David Daniel, was next to Reid.

Reid was an acquaintance of Daniel and the woman, but neither man lived at the home with the woman, authorities said.

Authorities told Patch that Daniel and the woman were not injured in the shooting, and a motive remains under investigation. A gun was found at the scene, authorities said.

Daniel was arrested and charged on suspicion of murder, authorities said. He is being held without bond at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center, authorities said.
