- There's a new sculpture in town symbolizing the influence the Cherokee Arts Center will always have on the citizens of Canton. The sculpture stands in front of the church that used to be home to the center and depicts an artist painting as a young child looks on. The painting he is creating, if you look closely, is a rendering of the Cherokee Arts Center building. The center closed last year, with the last project being this sculpture. - The Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce released its annual list of "Cherokee County's Top 10 in 10 Young Professionals to Watch." The list is comprised of the residents under 40 that are thought to be the county's future leaders through the next decade. The list this year includes Kristin Norton Green, the theater events and facilities director for the City of Canton; Ashley Polito, the principal of Holly Springs Elementary School STEM Academy; and Michael Sims, a lieutenant at Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services. - The Cherokee Sheriff's Office has posted an important traffic alert for the area around Market Place. The new traffic pattern on Cumming Highway has caused some confusion, leading to some drivers ending up in the oncoming lanes. The new lanes on Cumming Highway going east, between I-575 and Scott Road, are now open for vehicles traveling east. Please be cautious in the area, especially while turning out of businesses, they are working on opening up all lanes in that section of road. (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
