  1. On the night of Aug. 4, Georgia State Patrol deputies stopped 26-year-old Dylan Gage Shope in a Jeep Renegade on GA 365 near Hazel Creek Road. Shope then jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to flee but ran to the southbound lane of GA 365. In the southbound lane, Shope was struck by the passenger side of a blue 2007 Kenworth tractor-trailer driven by 27-year-old Lazaro Sanchez of Canton. Sanchez was not injured and Shope's injuries are non-life-threatening, according to troopers. (Nowhabersham)
  2. The Canton City Council has set its budget for over $79.8 million for the 2023 fiscal year. The budget is an $8.45 million decrease from this current year’s budget. (Cherokee Tribune & Ledger News)
  3. Canton officials will partner with an architect to design plans and custom home designs for the city. The homes will be more affordable and workforce housing in an effort to bring more affordable housing to Canton. (Cherokee Tribune Ledger News)
  4. On Jul. 29, the Dawson County Sheriff's Office, Canton police departments, and other participating agencies met at the intersection of Ga. 400 and Ga. 136 for a planned routine traffic network meeting and license check. The checkpoint was run in conjunction with the 2022 "100 Days of Summer HEAT" campaign. (Dawson News)
