Here are the top five stories today in Cartersville:

  1. There have been reports of three more COVID-related deaths in NW Georgia this past week, including a fatality in Bartow County. Throughout the state of Georgia, 50 deaths were reported, up from 43 over the past two weeks. Additionally, Bartow County reported it's currently monitoring 71 cases. (Rome News-Tribune)
  2. 70 Georgia churches have made the decision to leave the United Methodist Church, including Faith UMC in Cartersville. Last Thursday, the UMC North Georgia Conference stated that 70 congregations representing 9 percent of its churches and 3 percent of its members have chosen disaffiliation. The reason for the disaffiliation appears to be the ongoing debate over homosexuality in the denomination. The official disaffiliation date will be Jun. 30. (All On Georgia)
